ITEM: For your consideration is this 1965 Fender Jaguar with an original custom color Blonde finish, which was modified immediately after being purchased by Semie Moseley. Typically, modifications to vintage guitars decrease the value, however, this guitar may be the exception to the rule. Semie Moseley performed a very excellent and sensible mod by replacing the original single-coil pickups with large Mosrite P-90 style pickups, and upgrading the troublesome bridge with a tun-o-matic style replacemebt. This cool piece of guitar history is also an amazing instrument, so take advantage of our No Reserve auction with Free U.S. Shipping and get a great vintage guitar for a great price!
Semie Moseley, like many southern California electric guitar pioneers, was renowned for customizing guitars, in addition to, building guitars. He began customizing guitars in the 1950's, alongside such masters as Paul Bigsby, and was mostly known for working on his own creations. So, it is fairly rare to see a non-Mosrite guitar modified by Moseley, and such instruments are particularly scarce.
In this instance, Moseley did a great job of installing the pickups with minimal impact, using a non-invasive technique whereby he utilized several existing rout walls instead of creating a whole new cavity. The modification is clean and professional, but above all, it sounds amazing!
Yes, a Jaguar is a great-sounding classic guitar, however, with these large loud Mosrite pickups installed, it sounds beyond amazing! It is much louder, much thicker, and more rich than a Fender single-coil. Performing more like a P-90 than a Jag-pickup, this gutiar serves a whole new function, and creates an entirely new character. Both pickups sound great, and all of the controls are wired with traditional functionality.
In addition to the pickups, Semie replaced the bridge with a better intonating, non-Mosrite, tun-o-matic style setup. This bridge was also used on some Celebrity model guitars concurrent with the modifications on this Jaguar. Otherwise, the guitar is all original. The neck is in all original condition with the original finish, original frets, original hardware, and original decal. The body also retains the original Blond finish, the original hardware, the original pickguard, the original pots, and the original vibrato system with the original tremolo arm.
The neck is perfectly straight and it feels extremely comfortable. The original frets exhibit expected playing wear on the first 5-6 frets. The guitar weighs 8 pounds and 7 ounces, which is average weight for a Jaguar. The guitar comes with a no logo original '64 era Fender Jaguar case.
There is very consistent, yet, respected playing wear on both the body and neck, which displays years of well-cared for use. The finish also appears to be faded (reference the decal on the headstock, and the unfaded finish under the guard) which adds a very attractive relic appeal to the overall appearance. The pickguard, though obviously displaying enlarged pickup holes, is uncracked and intact. The hardware is in very excellent condition.
Remember, a Fender Jaguar was the most expensive guitar Fender offered at the time, especially one in a custom color. So the previous owner (original owner,) had much invested into this guitar, and he really felt the modification enhanced his already spectacular Jag.
An 100% original 1965 Fender Jaguar in Blond would most likely retail for over $5,000.00, and even though the Moseley Mod is quite interesting, as well as, practical, we realize that some might not be convinced that a guitar in this condition would retain a true collector's Blue Book value, so we have are willing to blowout this guitar to the highest bidder.
