ITEM:
For your consideration is this vintage 1965 Fender Mustang electric guitar. Made in late '65, this particular example features a very desirable (and original) slab fingerboard with an original white finish.  Features of this Mustang include: an Alder body, in this case with an Olympic White finish, the longer 24" scale length, a maple neck with a Brazilian rosewood Slab fingerboard and pearloid dot inlays, (2) single coil gray-bobbin pickups each with an on/off switch, master volume and tone control, a Leo Fender-designed tremolo, a black/white/tortoise guard, and the original salt&pepper hard case. Perhaps more desirable than a first year pre-CBS version, this next-year rare variety Slab Board Mustang is the only version with a pre-CBS style neck construction. While most dealers are asking upward of $2,200.00 for similar examples, be sure to take advantage of this blowout No Reserve/$.01 Minimum auction, as the highest bidder wins regardless of price!

While already perhaps the most collectible of Fender's short(er) scale models, this particular second year example is in particularly fine condition making it even more desirable, and a worthy contender to stand within even the best vintage guitar collections. The body is in excellent vintage condition, showing only expected signs of wear use and age, notably a few dings and some play wear on the sides and left lower bout. However, the back is in remarkably good shape, exhibiting less buckle rash-esque wear than would normally be expected. There is beautiful weather-checking throughout, only adding to the already huge vintage appeal of this example. The neck is in the same excellent condition as the body, with minimal finish, fingerboard, or fret wear. Also, the neck is dead-straight, and provides comfortable, low action for buzz-free playing up and down the fingerboard. All of the original electronics work perfectly, and are free of any scratchiness, noise, popping, or intermittence.

While it is one of the cleanest examples we have had in recent years, it is also one of the best players. The neck feels amazing, and the slab fingerboard really does make a beneficial difference. It weighs 8 pounds and 2 ounces, and is extremely comfortable to play. The pickups sound great, and unlike most Mustangs, all of the electronics work perfectly. The guitar includes the original chrome bridge cover, although it does not come with the tremolo arm. Also included in this auction is the original Fender hardshell case, which is also in excellent vintage condition both inside and out, exhibiting very minimal signs of wear and use.

First introduced in 1964, the Mustang was a redesign of Fender's two
other student models, the Duo-Sonic and the Musicmaster, and was geared
towards slightly more advanced students. The Mustang first gained
popularity among surf bands in the 60's, and reemerged in the 90's from
use by guitarists in many alternative rock bands, including: Kurt Cobain, PJ Harvey, John Frusciante, David Byrne, and Thurston Moore.

The rare Slab Board version Mustang model came about when Fender decided to put left-over pre-CBS '62 Jaguar necks to use on only the long scale Mustangs during a short period between late-1965 and early-1966. Fender recently reissued this exact version Mustang, which has a list price of over $1,200.00. Considered a desirable and collectible guitar, this very cool piece of Fender history is a perfect purchase for the beginning collector, or those looking for a great vintage bargain!
